E. & H.T. Anthony

Date Introduced: – ; Years Manufactured: c.1887-1899
Construction: back focus via push-pull; single swing; reverse by two tripod mounts; plywood lensboard
Materials: optional cherry or mahogany body; cherry base track; black fabric bellows; brass hardware, varnish finish
Sizes Offered: 4×5; 4.25×6.5; 5×7; 5×8; 6.5×8.5; 8×10
Notes: similar to NPA camera, except wood is varnished instead of French polished (the 1887 reference states that the body of the camera was cherry instead of mahogany; the camera above is mahogany) and hardware did not have draw file finish. It is possible that the Champion could be made of poorly-matched mahogany, as above.  The solid front style Champion was superceded in April, 1900 by the Open Front Style, Champion, Variation 2.   In the above example, the ground glass frame hinges down and the swing is via hardware at the top of the camera.  Later, but still prior to 1900, the swing was via hardware at the right side of the camera, as shown in the engraving.  The 5×8 camera above has top hardware that both clips the ground glass frame and allows one swing.   The 8×10 camera above has two ground glass frame clips; its swing hardware is on its right side.
